The wisdom of Ancient Rituals
A few days ago, I had the profound opportunity to attend the "Healing the Legacy of Trauma" event, an extraordinary gathering featuring luminaries in the field—Dr. Gabor Maté and Peter A. Levine PhD. The event, gracefully hosted by Dr. Scott Lyons with the wisdom contributions of Dr. Albert Wong and Nkem Ndefo, was a transformative journey into the depths of healing.
In the presence of these remarkable beings, the atmosphere exuded an ineffable wisdom that resonated with the very core of my being. The insights shared felt like a balm, nurturing my soul and creating ripples of profound understanding within.
Dr. Peter A. Levine, with his captivating storytelling, transported us to a remote Brazilian tribe. His narrative unfolded with a poignant account of a pregnant woman among them, facing the devastating loss of both her babies during childbirth. Overwhelmed by grief, she fell into a deep depression, rendering her immobile.
Rescued from the grips of despair, she was brought back to the tribe. Placed in the center of a supportive circle, a sacred dance began around her. It was an ancient ritual, a communal expression of shared sorrow and healing. As the community moved rhythmically around her, one member, moved by a profound empathetic connection, began to sob.
In that moment, something profound shifted. The grieving woman, held by the collective energy of the dance, began to break through her emotional numbness. She, too, joined in the cathartic release, sobbing in tandem with her fellow tribe member. The dance became a conduit for the expression of deep-seated shock and pain, a communal exorcism of the ghosts haunting her soul.
The story echoed through the room, leaving a profound imprint on our collective consciousness. It was a testament to the transformative power of communal healing, the wisdom of ancient rituals, and the human capacity to hold space for one another's pain.
We Gather together To Grieve.
To release,
To hold each other,
To Celebrate,
To Initiate.
